I’ve seen the crash site on Mt. Charleston on many occasions and have wondered who was on board and way they crashed. I would never have guessed the story was to amazing! It is intriguing to say the least. The book tells many stories. It first puts you on the plane the day it slammed the mountain. Then it tells the story of the rescue party that risked their lives to bring the bodies down off the mountain. Then the book takes a unusual turn, telling the story of a boy scout leader that visits the crash site alone and something follows him down the mountain – a must read.
The second half of the book relates the stories of the 14 men and their families that were kept in the dark for over 40 years due to the extreme level of security surrounding Area 51 and the U2 spy plane. There are lots of amazing twists and turns. It truly was not only a fun read but tugged at my heart strings. I have visited the crash site since reading the book and felt the emotion surrounding the sacrifices of true American heroes.
